Directors Elected at 57th Annual Meeting
The 57th annual meeting of Coleman County Telephone Cooperative, Inc.was held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Santa Anna Civic Center. Approximately 400 people attended, 257 of those being registered members eligible to vote in the election. The members of the Cooperative elected three directors, each to serve a three-year term. Those elected were, Rick Adams (incumbent), representing the Burkett/Lake Coleman area, Mike Stephenson (incumbent), representing the Mozelle area, and Glenda Gassiot (incumbent), representing the Valera area.
Other items on the agenda included a financial report by accountant, Janice Fellers and a report by general manager, Tim Humpert. A special guest in attendance was Herman Roark, a representative of TRC Engineering located in Kerrville, Texas.
Reece Halfmann Awarded FRS Scholarship
Reece Halfmann, of the Valera exchange, was chosen as a recipient of The Foundation for Rural Service scholarship in the amount of $2500. The FRS, a division of the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association, sponsors the College Scholarship Program and each year a team of educators from the Washington, DC area reviews the applications and chooses the recipients.
FRS annually awards $75,000 in scholarships to rural youth across the United States. Each $2,500-scholarship is made up of $2,000 from FRS and $500 from the local cooperative of each student. This year FRS received over 1,200 applications, and awarded only thirty (30) scholarships across the nation.
Reece is valedictorian of the Coleman High School class of 2009. His future plans include attending Texas A & M University to major in Electrical Engineering. Reece is the son of Lorene and Tommy Halfmann of Talpa.
