Deadline: Position Open Until Filled
Coleman County Telephone Cooperative (CCTC) is seeking a hardworking and dependable Fiber Construction Technician to join our team. This position will be directly involved in the construction, expansion, maintenance, and repair of the fiber-optic network that connects the rural communities we serve.
This is a hands-on field position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment, solving problems, and seeing the tangible results of their work. At CCTC, serving our customers is a team effort, so this position is not limited exclusively to construction. The successful candidate must be willing to assist with installation, repair, and other operational responsibilities when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Construct, install, maintain, and repair underground and aerial fiber-optic facilities.
Assist with fiber placement, conduit installation, handholes, pedestals, drops, and other outside-plant infrastructure.
Operate construction vehicles, trailers, trenchers, boring equipment, plows, and other tools and equipment as qualified and assigned.
Locate existing telecommunications facilities and help ensure safe construction practices around existing utilities.
Assist with fiber splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration as training and experience allow.
Read and interpret construction prints, maps, staking sheets, and other project documentation.
Maintain accurate records of construction activities and completed facilities.
Perform routine inspection and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, tools, and assigned materials.
Follow CCTC safety policies and applicable construction and utility safety requirements.
Coordinate with other employees, contractors, property owners, and customers during construction activities.
Assist with customer installations, service calls, troubleshooting, and repair work when needed.
Participate in the cooperative’s after-hours on-call rotation and assist with outage restoration, damaged facilities, and other emergency service needs.
Assist other departments and perform additional duties as assigned based on the needs of the cooperative.
Qualifications
Previous experience in telecommunications, fiber construction, underground utilities, construction, electrical work, equipment operation, or a related trade is preferred, but CCTC will consider candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
Experience operating construction or excavation equipment is preferred.
Fiber-optic installation, splicing, testing, or troubleshooting experience is a plus.
Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, climbing, bending, digging, and working around construction equipment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to safe work practices.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
CDL or ability to obtain a CDL may be preferred or required depending on assigned equipment.
Must be available to participate in the on-call rotation and work outside normal business hours when operational needs require it.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands that every foot of fiber we build ultimately connects a customer, family, farm, or business.
CCTC is a small cooperative, and teamwork matters. While fiber construction will be the primary responsibility of this position, employees may be called upon to assist with installations, repairs, outage restoration, and other areas of the operation. We value people who are willing to learn, help their coworkers, and do what is needed to take care of our customers and communities.

This position plays a key role in supporting the technology and network infrastructure that allows us to deliver reliable broadband and communications services to the communities we serve.
We are looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, learning new technologies, working as part of a team, and taking ownership of the systems they support. Because we are a small, community-focused telecommunications cooperative, our employees often wear more than one hat. The successful candidate must be willing to work outside of traditional IT responsibilities and assist wherever needed to serve our customers.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot CCTC’s network and IT infrastructure.
Support routers, switches, firewalls, servers, wireless systems, network equipment, and related telecommunications technology.

Assist with network upgrades, equipment deployment, configuration, documentation, and system improvements.
Maintain accurate network diagrams, equipment records, configurations, and technical documentation.
Support cybersecurity practices, system backups, access controls, software updates, and disaster-recovery efforts.
Troubleshoot escalated customer connectivity and network issues.
Provide technical support to employees and assist with computers, software, communications systems, and other technology as needed.
Work closely with operations, installation and repair, construction, customer service, and other departments.
Assist with customer installations, service calls, troubleshooting, and repair work when needed, including work at customer premises and in the field.
Participate in the cooperative’s after-hours on-call rotation and respond to network outages, service interruptions, and other operational needs.
Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Working knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi, firewalls, and general network troubleshooting.
Experience with fiber-optic broadband, telecommunications networks, servers, virtualization, cybersecurity, or network monitoring is preferred.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical users.
Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and adapt as CCTC’s network and services evolve.
Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate company vehicles.
Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions when assisting with field operations.
Must be available to participate in the on-call rotation and work outside normal business hours when operational needs require it.
What We’re Looking For
CCTC is looking for more than someone who can manage technology. We want a team member who understands that providing exceptional service in a rural telecommunications environment sometimes means stepping outside of a traditional job description.
Whether the need is troubleshooting a network issue, helping another department, assisting with a customer installation, or responding to an outage after hours, we value employees who are willing to step in and help get the job done.
